2025 Genesis GV80: A Comprehensive Review

As someone who has navigated the luxury SUV landscape—from the Audi Q8 to the Mercedes GLE350, BMW X5, and even the G-Wagon—I've developed a discerning eye for what sets a vehicle apart in this competitive segment. Since joining Genesis Motors in May 2023, my appreciation for the brand has deepened, especially after acquiring my own GV80 in December 2022. The 2025 Genesis GV80 exemplifies the brand's commitment to luxury, performance, and innovation.

Performance and Powertrain

The 2025 GV80 offers two engine options:

  • 2.5-Liter Turbocharged Inline-4: Delivers 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque.

  • 3.5-Liter Twin-Turbo V6: Produces 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque.

Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and come standard with all-wheel drive. The V6, in particular, provides robust acceleration and a refined driving experience, aligning well with the expectations set by its European competitors.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel economy for the GV80 is competitive within its class:

  • 2.5T: 19 mpg city / 24 mpg highway.

  • 3.5T: 16 mpg city / 22 mpg highway.

While these figures are respectable, they are slightly lower than some rivals. However, the GV80 compensates with its performance and luxury features.

Interior and Comfort

Stepping into the GV80, you’re immediately captivated by its meticulously crafted interior, which surpasses even its German counterparts in terms of quality and attention to detail. High-quality materials adorn every surface, creating a luxurious and refined ambiance. The new 27" OLED infotainment display stands out with its intuitive and responsive design, seamlessly integrating into the vehicle’s overall aesthetics.

An even more impressive feature is the newly available 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, which delivers an immersive listening experience with a whopping 350 more watts of power over the previous model year. This powerful system is enhanced by a new BeoSonic audio interface, further elevating the cabin’s ambiance. Subwoofers strategically placed under the driver and front passenger seats provide a deep and resonant bass, providing an upgrade from the previous Lexicon sound system.

Cargo Space and Seating

The GV80 offers flexible seating configurations:

  • Five-Passenger Model: Provides ample cargo space, making it practical for daily use and long trips.

  • Seven-Passenger Model: Adds a third row, suitable for children or short trips.

While the third row is a welcome addition, it may feel cramped for adults on longer journeys. The sloping roofline of the Coupe variant slightly reduces cargo space compared to the standard model.

Ride and Handling

The GV80's suspension adeptly absorbs road imperfections, providing a smooth and composed ride. However, some drivers may find the steering lacks the precision found in competitors like the BMW X5 boasting a sportier more agile steering vs the lighter more comfort oriented steering on the GV80. Despite this, the GV80 remains confident in various driving conditions, balancing comfort and agility.

Safety and Technology

Genesis prioritizes safety, equipping the GV80 with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance technologies, including:

  • Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (Highway Drive Assist II)

  • Lane Keeping Assist (Highway Drive Assist II)

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist

These features contribute to a reassuring driving experience, enhancing both convenience and safety.

Pricing and Value

The 2025 GV80 starts at $58,200* for the 2.5T Standard trim, with higher trims like the 3.5T Prestige reaching up to $79,800*.

Considering its extensive list of standard features and luxurious appointments, the GV80 offers exceptional value in the luxury SUV segment.

Conclusion

The 2025 Genesis GV80 stands as a formidable contender in the luxury SUV market, blending performance, comfort, and advanced technology. While it faces stiff competition, its unique combination of features and value proposition make it a compelling choice for discerning buyers. As someone deeply embedded in the automotive world and with firsthand experience of the GV80, I can attest to its merits and the thoughtful engineering that defines this vehicle.
